摘要 PURPOSE: A tunable optical attenuator applying a large diameter optical fiber is provided to attenuate light transmitted through the large diameter optical fiber by controlling an opening size of an iris between tapered optical fibers. CONSTITUTION: A tunable optical attenuator applying a large diameter optical fiber includes an input terminal optical fiber, an output terminal optical fiber, a first transition part(T1), a first horizontal part(P1), a second horizontal part(P2), a second transition part(T2), and an iris(150). The input terminal optical fiber has a first core with a first diameter. The output terminal optical fiber has a second core with a diameter which is equal to the first diameter. The first transition part has a first transition core whose outer diameter is gradually extended from the termination part of the first core of the input terminal optical fiber. The first horizontal part has a first horizontal core horizontally extended from the first transition part. The second horizontal part is separated from the first horizontal part, and has a second horizontal core extended with the same outer diameter as the first horizontal part. The second transition part has a second transition core whose outer diameter is gradually extended to the second horizontal core of the second horizontal part from the second core of the output terminal optical fiber. The iris is inserted between the first and second horizontal parts, and adjusts a cross section of an optical transmission area transmitted to the second horizontal core of the second horizontal part through the first horizontal core of the first horizontal part.
