PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method of manufacturing a briquette for producing coke capable of effectively improving the strength of the briquette as a raw material of the coke, and an industrially advantageous method of producing the coke.SOLUTION: An extraction treatment is performed on residual oil including at least one type selected from atmospheric distillation residual oil obtained by distilling crude oil under an atmospheric pressure and vacuum distillation residual oil obtained by distilling the crude oil under the atmospheric pressure and also under vacuum using as a solvent a light reformate separated after reforming a naphtha fraction fractionated by distilling the crude oil under the atmospheric pressure using a catalytic reforming apparatus. Solvent deasphalting pitch separated by the extraction treatment is added as a caking additive when blending the caking coal and non- or slightly-caking coal, and resulting blended coal is shaped to obtain the briquette.
