PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which allows for gray level correction less likely to cause unnatural image after gray level correction, while minimizing deterioration of contrast of an HDR image.SOLUTION: A target correction amount of gray level correction calculated based on the luminance information of an HDR image is obtained by gray level correction using the luminance low frequency component of an HDR image, and gray level correction using a tone curve. The correction amount of correction using a tone curve is determined as the difference between a target correction amount and the correction amount by gray level correction using the luminance low frequency component. The correction amount by gray level correction using the luminance low frequency component is determined to be smaller for higher luminance of the main subject of the HDR image. |
