Energy self-sufficient advanced wastewater treatment system by combination of microbial fuel cells and microbial electrolysis cells

PURPOSE: An advanced and energy self-sufficient wastewater processing apparatus is provided to reduce the operation costs by removing an aeration process, and supply electric energy to a microorganism electrolytic cell as an energy source. CONSTITUTION: An advanced and energy self-sufficient wastewater processing apparatus includes a microbial fuel cell(20), a microorganism electrolytic cell(30), an electrochemical oxidation/reduction reaction tank(9), and a pipe(4) for supplying effluent from the microbial fuel cell to the microorganism electrolytic cell. Organic carbon compounds in the effluent are decomposed in the microbial fuel cell. The microorganism electrolytic cell processes nutrients. The microorganism electrolytic cell is combined with the microbial fuel cell.
