REACTOR FOR PREPOLYMERIZATION OF MONODISPERSE PARTICLES

The invention relates to technology for the production of polymer granules used for producing ion-exchange resins. The reactor comprises a housing having at least one inlet for introducing an emulsion of monodisperse droplets in an aqueous stabilizer solution and an outlet disposed in the lower part of the housing for discharging an emulsion containing monodisperse droplets which have reached an elastic state, as well as a means for circulating the stabilizer solution and a means for mixing the emulsion. The housing is in the form of a cylindrical vessel with a conical cover having an angle of 60° at the apex, in the upper part of which a stuffing box of the mixing means is disposed, said stuffing box being in the form of a tube connected to the cover, with a shaft of the mixing means disposed in said tube, and said tube comprising two connecting pieces - a first for supplying stabilizer solution and a second for communicating with the atmosphere. The first connecting piece is situated lower than the second. In the region of the aforesaid connecting pieces, the shaft of the mixing means is mounted with clearance from the walls of the tube. The mixing means is a low-speed combined mixer situated in the top 2/3 of the reactor and having three groups of mixing members which have different shapes and diameters and are situated in different planes. The central shaft of the mixer has a diameter that is greater downstream of the first group of mixing members than upstream thereof, and the surfaces of the housing, the cover and the mixer which are in contact with the emulsion are made from a material which prevents the adhesion of monodisperse droplets. The working temperature of the housing is maintained by a heating element. The invention makes it possible to maintain a uniform droplet size.
