PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust system component with high corrosion-resistance, and to provide a method for nitriding an exhaust system component.SOLUTION: An exhaust system component includes an exhaust contacting part coming into contact with an exhaust gas of an engine and a refrigerant contacting part coming into contact with a refrigerant, is formed of an austenitic stainless steel, and is configured to cool the exhaust gas with the refrigerant. The exhaust system component further includes: a nitride compound layer 72 that is nitrided at an outermost layer of the exhaust contacting part; and a high corrosion-resistant layer 74 having an iron content lower than an iron content of a base material 71 to be the austenitic stainless steel and positioned between the base material 71 and the nitride compound layer 72. |
