摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool position measuring device and measuring method, capable of accurately measuring the position of the tool edge of a rotary tool in the rotary shaft direction without depending on the material or the shape of the surface of the tool edge.SOLUTION: An optical device 28 includes at least a light source 20 and a pattern plate 34, which irradiates the light from the light source 20 toward the tool edge 12a in Z-axis direction and projects the pattern 34a formed on a pattern plate 34 to the surface of the tool edge 12a. A control unit 30 controls the movement of a rotary tool 12 in Z-axis direction. An imaging device 16 takes the picture of the tool edge in Z-direction with the reflection light from the tool edge 12a for each movement position of the rotary tool 12 controlled by the control unit 30. A data analyzer 18 calculates the contrast for each photographed picture of the tool edge on the basis of the brightness distribution on a predetermined axis line in X-axis direction, and extracts a tool edge position Z2 corresponding to the photographed picture of the tool edge having the maximum contrast, which is set as the reference position of the tool edge 12a in Z-axis direction.
