PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing a catalyst's efficiency in polymerization of ethylene and at least one α-olefin in the presence of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene.SOLUTION: Though 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB) is a critical raw material for ethylene-propylene-diene modification (EPM), residual compounds which can act as catalyst poisons are present in ENB production. After passing ENB through a purification step, the purity is measured by UV absorbance and ENB having such purity as the sum of absorbance at the wavelengths: 320 nm and 343 nm of ≤0.31 is used.
