Copolymers which may be dissolved in paraffin wax or mixed with paraffin wax and cork to give extrudable compositions according to the methods of Group V, are obtained by emulsion copolymerizing alpha-methyl-paramethylstyrene with an open chain aliphatic conjugated diolefin such as butadiene, isoprene, pentadiene - 1,3 or hexadiene - 1,3. In an example, 130 parts of butadiene and 70 parts of alpha-methyl-para-methylstyrene were dispersed in water with 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol oleate and ammonium persulphate and the mixture copolymerized by agitating at 25 DEG C. for 288 hours. The emulsion was coagulated by pouring it into 5 per cent acetic acid solution and the resultant copolymer, after washing, was incorporated with phenyl b -naphthylamine.ALSO:A lubricant suitable for use as a component of extrudable materials such as cork compositions comprises a paraffin wax solution of a copolymer of alpha-methyl-para-methyl-styrene and an open chain aliphatic diolefin such as butadiene, isoprene, pentadiene 1,3, or hexadiene 1,3. The copolymer may be made by emulsion polymerization in the presence of ammonium persulphate as described in Group IV (a). The solution is preferably prepared by milling the copolymer with a small quantity of paraffin optionally with hydroquinone and then diluting with a further quantity of paraffin. The resulting solution may be mixed with cork particles, glue, glycerine and formaldehyde and after drying extruded at 250 DEG F.
