PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elastase inhibition composition and an external preparation for skin, which have, as an effective component, a compound high in elastase inhibition activity. SOLUTION: As only 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid has an elastase inhibition activity effect and other isomer of dihydroxybenzoic acid such as 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid does not show the elastase inhibition activity effect, an elastase inhibition composition and an external preparation for skin, having, as the effective component, one or more kinds of compound selected from 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid and its salt, are prepared.
