The device (E) has an apparatus (V) for generating residuum (r) based on a reference value (w) and an output variable (y). A comparator unit (KE) provides analytical result (b) by comparing the residuum with a threshold value (s). A constant threshold value portion providing unit (E1) provides a constant threshold value portion (s0), and an adaptive threshold value portion providing unit (E2) provides an adaptive threshold value portion (s1) based on the reference value. A threshold value providing unit (E3) provides the threshold value by associating the constant and the adaptive portions. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for analyzing residuum for detecting errors in behaviors of a system (2) a computer program product for executing a residuum analyzing method.
