The device has a support piece (13) that is formed such that force caused by tensile stress does not act at a location of a path of a nerve over an inner side of ischial protuberances (8) or a lower pubic bone (21) of pelvis of a person, where the tensile stress is initiated at a lower extremity i.e. thigh, and received over the support piece at the ischial protuberances of the pelvis. The support piece is configured such that centering of the pelvis takes place by the tensile stress in a direction transverse to the tensile stress. An independent claim is also included for a method for distracting a lower extremity.
