PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus 10 and a method for producing a spherical glass material capable of producing a high-quality spherical glass material G4 by preventing adhesion of a glass gob G3, even when forming spherically the glass gob G3 having a low viscosity.SOLUTION: In an apparatus for producing a spherical glass material including a glass gob supply part 1 for dropping each prescribed amount of molten glass as a soft-state glass gob G1, and a spherically forming part 4 for cooling and simultaneously spherically forming the glass gob supplied by the glass gob supply part 1, a collision member 2 having a collision surface 21 with which the glass gob G1 dropped from the glass gob supply part 1 is allowed to collide is provided under the glass gob supply part 1, and the glass gob flattened on the collision surface 21 upon collision is cooled by the collision member 2, and the glass gob G3 sphered by own surface tension after collision is sent to the spherically forming part 4. |
