The method including the steps of obtaining a card-issuer currency from data present on the ICC (26) and, if the issuer currency is not the same as the merchant currency, determining the transaction amount in the issuer currency. The method also includes providing the transaction in the card issuer currency for authorisation. The step of obtaining the issuer currency includes the steps of searching ICC data for one or more predetermined fields and retrieving data relating to one or more of the fields. The issuer currency is obtained without first identifying the issuer (Issuing Bank A or B) of the card (26).
