A printed plastic or paper layer incorporates an evaporating substance such as a perfume, contained in microcapsules. The plastic/paper layer is first coated with a thin layer of an aq. dispersion, such as styrene acrylate or styrene acetate and then with the microcapsules and a small quantity of a binding agent. The coatings are then dried immediately with hot air, producing a material which is easy to manipulate and releases the evaporating substance by rubbing. Pref. the initial plastic/paper layer is of a material which is only slightly or not at all absorbent, and the binding agent is a natural substance such as gum arabic.
