PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a fixation device capable of improving separability even when a separation device gives less influence on a fixation member making use of a relation between surface nature and the separability of the fixation member.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus (100) comprises: an image heating member (53) for heating an image formed on a recording material (P); and a rubbing member (55) for contacting with a surface of the image heating member, and rubbing the image heating member. The image forming apparatus also includes: an execution part (37) for executing a mode for rubbing the image heating member by the rubbing member in a period between a signal input of an image formation job for forming the image on the recording material and a start of the image formation job; and switching means (141). The switching means switches rubbing conditions in the mode when a basis weight of a recording material selected in the image formation job is a first basis weight, so as to make the surface of the image heating member (53) coarser than when the basis weight of the selected recording material is a second basis weight larger than the first basis weight. |
