<p>The present invention enables suitable conversion of a two-dimensional image into a binocular disparity image corresponding to stereoscopic vision (stereopsis). An arrangement is adopted in which the frequency regions in the high-amplitude, medium to high regions that are very likely to be in near view are enhanced by pre-processing, the image is then converted from 2D to 3D, and high-region signals of higher sharpness are made to appear in the front, whereupon high-region signals of high amplitude are displayed closer, and medium-region signals of high amplitude are displayed in the front without being modified. Since the amplitude of the medium- to high-region signals is also enhanced by the pre-processing, the sharpness and contrast, which are cues for the stereoscopically visualized (monocular) depth, are enhanced along with the stereoscopic effect.</p> |
