<p>An elongate article 10 comprises an elongate first layer 12 and an elongate second layer 14 around the first layer, the second layer extending lengthwise of the first layer. The second layer is formed from an activatable adhesive which, in use, adheres the article to a substrate upon activation. Preferably, the adhesive is activated by moisture and comprises polyvinyl alcohol and a plasticiser, such as glycerol or a glycol. The first layer may comprise at least one strand of an electrically-conductive material around which there may be an electrically-insulating material (18, Fig. 2). Typically, the article is in the form of a cylindrical wire or tape. A method of manufacturing the article by heating the adhesive and thereafter extruding it onto the first layer so as to form the second layer is also claimed. An electrically-insulating material in the form of polyvinyl alcohol in combination with a plasticiser is further disclosed.</p> |
