PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively detect an overcurrent, and to reliably protect an element constituting a circuit, over a wide input current range. SOLUTION: A power supply device 10 includes an approximate value output unit 15 for output of an approximate value Iapr of a current flowing in a primary side, in a regular operation of a load circuit, based on an input voltage Vin, and a supply decision unit 17 for comparing a measured current value Imea with the approximate value Iapr, and for determining the presence of abnormal conditions in the load circuit 13, when the current value Imea comes to the approximate value Iapr or more.
