The system has a set of magneto-resistive sensors (1) that is utilized for detecting orientation of magnetic field of a set of magnetic elements (2). The magnetic elements are placed on an external surface of a product for coding its address and/or its configuration. A set of bipolar or multi-polar magnetic labels is printed or engraved on a set of visible faces, and is fixed on the external surface of the product. The set of sensors is arranged at 90 degrees out of phase to obtain sufficient resolution to discriminate two spaced magnetic positions.
