PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for defrosting in a refrigerator are provided to effectively defrost an evaporator using paramagnetic salt, and to quickly remove a thermal load around the evaporator when initially starting a freezing cycle apparatus after defrosting. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for defrosting in a refrigerator includes a defrosting sensor (30), a defrosting heater (40), an electromagnet part (51), paramagnetic salt (52), and a control unit. The defrosting sensor detects whether or not frost exists using temperature variation in an evaporator (23). The defrosting sensor at the lower side of the evaporator removes frost on the surface of the evaporator. The electromagnet parts at both sides of the evaporator generate or dissipate a magnetic field. The paramagnetic salt neighboring the electromagnet part regularly or irregularly arranged according to the magnetic field, and generates or absorbs heat. The control unit controls the operation of the defrosting heater and the electromagnet part according to the temperature variation in the evaporator. |
