PURPOSE: A safety device for an elevator and a control method thereof are provided to enable passengers to manually control the elevator in emergency situations. CONSTITUTION: A safety device (100) for an elevator comprises a movable car (110), a driving part (120), a control part (130), an emergency control part (140), and a selective operation part (180). The driving part provides driving force to the car to move the car. The control part interlocks with the moving conditions of the car to generate a first or second control signal according to a controlled or uncontrolled state. The emergency control part interlocks with the first or second control signal to control the movement of the car. The selective operation part is activated by the second control signal to operate the emergency control part. |
