The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a method for decomposing a soft biomass; a method for producing a target substance from a soft biomass; and an enzyme or a group of enzymes, both of which can be used for decomposing a soft biomass. Provided is a method for decomposing a soft biomass such as a bagasse or a rice straw, involving a step of bringing an enzyme selected from a specific exo-type cellulase, a specific endo-type cellulase and a specific processive endo-type cellulase into contact with the soft biomass. Also provided is a method for producing a target substance from a soft biomass, involving the method for decomposing a soft biomass as a step. Further provided is an enzyme selected from a specific exo-type cellulase, a specific endo-type cellulase and a specific processive endo-type cellulase as an enzyme or a group of enzymes for decomposing a soft biomass.
