PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas circuit breaker that allows an arc-extinguishing chamber to be reduced in size and has high breaking performance.SOLUTION: In a gas circuit breaker, a first arcing contact 1 and a second arcing contact 2 are disposed opposite to each other in a sealed container filled with an arc-extinguishing gas, coaxially face each other and are rendered conductive. The circuit breaker breaks current by relatively opening and separating the first arcing contact 1 and the second arcing contact 2. The circuit breaker generates a magnetic field 10 at least a part of which has a component of a direction perpendicular to an arc 8 generated in a process of breaking with respect to the arc 8. An arc runner 5 formed of a non-magnetic material is positioned at a leading end front portion of the first arcing contact 1. An arc runner support 6 formed of the non-magnetic material is disposed so as to surround the first arcing contact 1, supports the arc runner 5 and causes the arc runner 5 to be conductive with the first arcing contact 1. The arc runner support 6 is provided with a spiral groove 6a, and the magnetic field 10 is generated by the groove 6a. |
