The pump (1) has a cylinder (6) for supporting a piston (5), which is indirectly supported on a drive shaft (2) by a roller (10), so that a translational movement of the piston is executable between a top dead center and a bottom dead center by a rotational motion of the drive shaft. A working chamber (29) comprises a piston displacement volume (14) that is present between the top dead center and the bottom dead center and a dead volume (15) that is narrowed by an additional insert in addition to a housing (8). The housing is partially and/or completely made of metal. The insert is partially and/or completely made of plastic i.e. thermoplastic. An independent claim is also included for a high pressure injection system.
