PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing reduced iron from steelmaking dust containing iron oxide produced in a steelmaking plant, which achieves further improvement of heat efficiency and stable operation by focusing on a rotary kiln reduction method which does not need pretreatment of the dust.SOLUTION: An apparatus for producing reduced iron is characterized in that an internal heating-type rotary kiln and an external heating-type rotary kiln are arranged in series and when heating and reducing carbon-containing pellets in at least one closed space including the insides of both rotary kilns, reducing waste gas produced in the external heating-type rotary kiln is burnt in the inside of the internal heating-type rotary kiln.
