PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an operation without any interference between a labyrinth piston and a cylinder by achieving a mechanical running (operation without compressing a gas for compression) state while injecting the gas to a cylinder side face.SOLUTION: A labyrinth piston reciprocating compressor and its operation method are a structure and a method, in which a piston length (A) in an axis direction of a labyrinth piston (1) is longer than a piston stroke (B) of the labyrinth piston (1) and a pipe (22) and a nozzle (21) for injecting a gas to a cylinder side face (2A) are formed on the cylinder side face (2A) of a cylinder (2) to achieve a mechanical running state which does not compress the gas while injecting the gas to the cylinder side face (2A).
