PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyurethane elastic fiber being excellent in chlorine resistance and light resistance without containing a metal component and retaining strength and elongation of a conventional polyurethane elastic fiber; and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: A polyurethane elastic fiber comprises polyurethane with polymer diol and diisocyanate being starting materials and is characterized in that the urethane group concentration of the polyurethane is 0.2 mol/kg and more and 3.5 mol/kg or less relative to 1 kg of the polyurethane, and that at least one kind of the following materials (i) and (ii) is contained and the total content of these materials (i) and (ii) is in the range of 0.05 wt.% or more and 10 wt.% or less. (i): A compound A having two or more carbonyl groups in the molecule, one of which is included in a moiety of a carboxyl group, and having a nitrogen-containing fused bicyclic structure.
