OPTICAL BEACON AND ON-VEHICLE MACHINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new optical beacon multi-rate compatible in an uplink direction that can reliably provide a new on-vehicle machine with counter value service information provided after downlink switching.SOLUTION: An optical beacon 4 performs radio communication by an optical signal with an on-vehicle machine 2 of a vehicle under traveling. The optical beacon 4 includes: an optical reception unit 11 that is capable of photoelectric conversion at two high and low transfer rates; an optical transmission unit 10 that is capable of electro-optical conversion at a given transfer rate; a communication control unit (beacon controller) 7 that can adopt the following two conditions as a condition for performing downlink switching: the first condition being reception completion of a lower rate frame UL1; and the second condition being reception completion of a higher rate frame UL2.
