The present invention pertains to a process for the manufacture of a CuO/ZnO/Al 2 O 3 catalyst, which may be used in the synthesis of methanol from syngas. It also pertains to the catalyst thus obtained, which offers a high external surface area, fine copper oxide crystallites and a high copper surface after reduction.
