To facilitate the winding of freshly produced <PICT:0695602/IV (a)/1> artificial threads round a pair of mutually inclined rolls, the thread is initially pulled forward on to the delivery end of the pair of rolls by means of a swingabletube, through which liquid flows, and is wound round at this point to form a number of helical windings; the tube is then swung back to the receiving end of the pair of rolls so that the thread is then taken up by the rolls at the receiving end, and forwarded along the length of the rolls in spaced helical windings. During spinning-on, the windings are thus disposed on the front part of the rolls, whence they can readily be removed if faults occur without fouling the difficulty accessible rear part of the rolls with broken ends of thread. As shown, artificial thread emerges from a spinning bath and is passed several times around and between a pair of mutually inclined rollers 1. It then passes down a tube 2 which is funnel-shaped at the top. The tube when in the vertical position extends as far as the level of the centre of the lower member of the aftertreatment rolls 3. During normal operation the treating liquid flows through the tube and is then collected in a trough 4. During spinning-on, the swingably-mounted tube 2 is pulled forward to the front end of the pair of aftertreatment rolls and the thread from the extrusion nozzle and spinning bath is washed directly through the tube and is temporarily received in an auxiliary channel. The thread is then wound in several coils around the pair of rolls 1 and finally around the pair of after-treatment rolls 3. The first coils are then guided back to the rear of rolls 3 by swinging back the tube. The process may be applied to the production and treatment of viscose threads. The treatment liquid may be warm or hot water. |
