<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device and a control method of the storage device such that even if writing of data to a nonvolatile memory is interrupted, the nonvolatile memory can be started up next time without causing format illegality. <P>SOLUTION: The storage device includes a nonvolatile memory management service 1 (control mechanism), an external storage device 2, and a nonvolatile memory 3. The external storage device 2 has a nonvolatile memory use size 21 storing a nonvolatile memory use size, and a Checksum value 22 storing a check sum. The nonvolatile memory 3 has a plurality of Entry's 31. The plurality of Entry's 31 each have respective items of a Signature 311 indicative of whether each Entry is effective, a Status 312, a data length 313, and a data part 314.
