PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for forming a TiOfilm capable of forming a TiOfilm that hardly causes a crack even when the film thickness is thickened, and to provide a method for producing an article with a TiOfilm using the same.SOLUTION: A composition for forming a TiOfilm is formed by blending an aqueous dispersion of TiOparticles whose average aggregated particle size is 1-50 nm with a TiOprecursor comprising either or both of Ti(OR)(wherein R is a 1-5C alkyl group) and its oligomer so that the ratio of the TiOparticles falls into 68-92 mass% in the total (100 mass%) of the mass of the TiOparticles and the mass of the TiOprecursor (in terms of TiO), and contains an acid. In a method for producing an article (wavelength selection diffraction grating 1) with a TiOfilm, the TiOfilm (second grating 30) is formed by coating and thermally treating the composition for forming a TiOfilm on the surface of a substrate (a glass substrate 10 and a first grating 20).
