PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable accurate positioning of a workpiece having a cut hole formed therein with respect to a cutter.SOLUTION: A sewing machine M comprises: a cloth presser 31 for a workpiece cloth W; a cloth presser pulse motor 35 which performs driving control of the cloth presser 31 so that the cloth presser 31 is raised and lowered between a pressing position at which to press the workpiece cloth W and a raised position at which to separate from the workpiece cloth W; a cutter 13 which is provided so as to be vertically movable and can cut the workpiece cloth W; a spring member 48 which urges the cutter 13 upward; a solenoid 45 which can drive the cutter 13 downward against urging force; and a cutter origin sensor which detects that the cutter 13 is located at a prescribed cutting standby position. When the solenoid 45 is in a non-driving state, and when the cutter origin sensor does not detect that the cutter 13 is located at the cutting standby position, the driving control of the cloth presser pulse motor 35 is performed so that the cloth presser 31 is moved to an intermediate position between the pressing position and the raised position. |
