PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide elasticity in assignment of virtual machines to a software application.SOLUTION: An embodiment monitors application performance metrics indicating performance of a software application which is executed by one or more host computing devices. On the basis of application of a rule to the application performance metrics, elastic operations such as a power-on operation, a power cutoff operation, an expansion operation and/or a destruction operation are determined. The elastic operations are transmitted to one or more target hosts which execute the elastic operations. The target hosts can be selected based on host performance metrics. Also, a load balancing service is adaptable to addition of a new software application instance to a cluster and/or deletion of an existing software application instance from a cluster. |
