Provided is an organic electroluminescent light emitting device, which reduces deterioration by suppressing entry of water and oxygen to the inside, and which has high light extraction performance. This organic electroluminescent light emitting device is provided with an organic electroluminescent element (10), which has a light transmitting first electrode (2), a light emitting functional layer (3) configured of a plurality of layers including a light emitting layer, and a second electrode (4) in this order on a surface of a light transmitting substrate (1). At least on a part of side surfaces of the light transmitting substrate (1), a functional scattering section (5) is provided in contact with the part, said functional scattering section being formed of a resin composition containing a scattering body (6) having moisture absorbing characteristics and/or oxygen absorbing characteristics. Entry of water and oxygen to the inside can be suppressed by means of the functional scattering section (5), and light extraction performance can be improved. |
