PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for driving assistance, capable of providing effective driving assistance by appropriately determining whether or not driving assistance is needed.SOLUTION: A driving assistance apparatus 1 includes; a collision time estimator 30 which estimates TTC (time to collision) and TTV (time to vehicle); a driving assistance determination unit 34 which determines whether to provide driving assistance to a host vehicle or not by applying the TTC and TTV to a preset map M; a driving assistance control unit 38 which controls driving assistance on the host vehicle; and a map modification unit 36 which modifies the map M to facilitate determination by the driving assistance determination unit 34 to provide driving assistance when the point of intersection between the TTC and the TTV first appears on the map M, after the TTC and TTV have been applied to the map M by the driving assistance determination unit 34, and is found inside a prescribed area. |
