PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress degradation in combustibility when transitioning to a decelerated state in a vehicular internal combustion engine in which valve timing of an intake valve and valve timing of an exhaust valve are varied according to an engine operating condition.SOLUTION: A vehicular engine 101 includes a VTC (Variable valve Timing Control) mechanism 113a varying the valve timing of an intake valve 105, and a VTC mechanism 113b varying the valve timing of an exhaust valve 107. An engine control unit (ECU) 114 controls the VTC mechanisms 113a, 113b according to the engine operating condition. When transitioning to a decelerated state or transitioning from the decelerated state to low rotation/low middle load area, the ECU 114 changes the valve timing of the exhaust valve 107 by the VTC mechanism 113b in preference to the valve timing of the intake valve 105 by the VTC mechanism 113a. |
