PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to control a water supply so that water is sprayed inside a drum when the rotating speed of the drum reaches the predetermined speed and the water supply is stopped when the rotating speed of the drum is faster than the predetermined speed. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine includes an input unit (111), a water-level sensing unit (112), a vibration sensing unit (113), a rotation number sensing unit (114), a control unit, and a driving unit (130). The input unit inputs the operation information of the washing machine by the manipulation of a user. The water-level sensing unit senses the level of the water supplied to a water tank, and the vibration sensing unit senses the vibration of the water tank. The rotation number sensing unit senses the number of the rotation of the motor and inputs the number into the control unit. The control unit controls the general operation of the washing machine such as cleaning, rinsing, and spin-drying operations according to the inputted operation information. The driving unit drives a motor (30), a washing heater (12), a water supply valve (140), and a drain pump (52) related to the operation of the washing machine according to the operation control signals of the control unit.
