PURPOSE: A method for testing the insulating property of a heat shielding coating layer is provided to use a coin type specimen, thereby maximizing convenience for manufacturing the specimen. CONSTITUTION: A method for testing the insulating property of a heat shielding coating layer includes: a step of exposing one side of a metal substrate specimen to hot electricity, and exposing the other side of the metal substrate specimen to cooling air in order to obtain a thermal gradient in the thickness direction of the specimen; a step of exposing the coating layer side of a coating layer specimen to the hot electricity, and exposing the opposite side of the coating layer specimen to the cooling air in order to obtain a thermal gradient in the thickness direction of the coating layer specimen; a step of calculating temperature at the external surface of a coating layer (25) and temperature at the interface of the coating layer using the temperature gradient of the metal substrate specimen; and a step of evaluating the insulating property of the coating layer using a temperature difference between the temperature at the external surface of the coating layer and the temperature at the interface of the coating layer.
