<p>A process for manufacturing an inorganic fiber, characterized by comprising: preparing a spinning dope which contains an aluminum source, a calcium source, a silicon source and a spinning auxiliary and in which the content of the spinning auxiliary is, in terms of solid matter, at least 3 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the sum total of the aluminum source, the calcium source and the silicon source; spinning the dope by a sol-gel method to form a crude inorganic fiber; and then firing the crude inorganic fiber to form an inorganic fiber which comprises 35 to 88 mass% of Al2O3, 3 to 45 mass% of CaO, and 5 to 40 mass% of SiO2 and in which the total content of Al2O3, CaO and SiO2 accounts for at least 97 mass% of the whole of the fiber.</p> |
