In various embodiments, method and device for estimating mobility state of user equipment in a Heterogeneous Network (HETNET) is provided. The method includes the steps of continuously determining whether existing mobility state estimation parameters provided by a first base station are same as new mobility state estimation parameters provided by a second base station, the mobility state estimation parameters include an evaluation time window and count thresholds for estimating the mobility state, if yes, retaining the existing mobility state estimation parameters provided by the first base station, subsequently estimating mobility state based on the existing mobility state estimation parameters, and if no, reconfiguring the mobility state estimation parameters, subsequently re-estimating the mobility state based on the reconfigured mobility state parameters.
