A system for recovering heat energy from a brake pad (5,6) of a vessel or a plant. The system is provided with thermoelectric elements la, lb) in the brake pad of the vessel or of the plant, and in which brake pad a temperature gradient is expected. By utilizing the Seebeck effect, the thermoelectric elements generate electrical energy, which may be used to charge a battery of the vessel or of the plant.
