Preparing a polymer comprises dispersed phase polymerization of an aqueous phase comprising at least one dispersed ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one free radical source and a reactive stabilizer comprising a polymeric chain including monomer units of N-vinyl lactam and a thiocarbonylthio group.
