PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a rolling element made of zirconia-alumina-based ceramic more inexpensively than hitherto.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a rolling element made of ceramics includes: a step for subjecting zirconia powder and alumina powder together with water to wet mixing and drying, to thereby prepare mixed powder of the zirconia powder and the alumina powder; a step for heating, rotating and simultaneously drying slurry containing alumina powder and water, to thereby prepare an aggregate comprising the alumina powder; a step for inputting the aggregate and water into a tumbling granulation device to be subjected to tumbling granulation, and simultaneously adding the mixed powder little by little thereto, to thereby obtain a formed sphere in which alumina is used as a core and zirconia-alumina-based ceramic is used as an outer layer; a step for subjecting the formed sphere to sintering and a HIP treatment, to thereby manufacture a preform sphere; and a step for polishing the surface of the preform sphere. A rolling support device including a rolling element in which alumina is used as a core and zirconia-alumina-based ceramic is used as an outer layer is also provided. |
