Provided are a light projection device that is capable of detecting positional information of an object onto which projection is being made by means of a simple device configuration without decreasing image quality, and a method for detecting the positional information of the projection object. This light projection device (100) includes: a projection means (11) that has a superimposing signal addition means (120), which adds visible light signal for detecting positional information of a projection object (200) to an image to be projected onto the projection object (200), and projects the light-signal-added image (35) onto the projection object (200); a reflected light transmission means (180) that selectively allows reflected light of the light signal, which is contained in reflected light of the light-signal-added image from the projection object (200), to pass through; an image pickup means (152) for obtaining reflected light of the light signal which has passed through the reflected light transmission means (180); and a coordinate calculation means (170) for calculating positional information of the projection object (200) by using the obtained reflected light of the light signal. |
