PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a hydrogen storing alloy with high capacity in which both the cycle life and the discharged capacity at low temperatures to near -30°C are improved.SOLUTION: A hydrogen storing alloy includes at least two phases consisting of a LaMgNitype crystalline phase with 2H type laminated structure and a LaMgNitype phase with 3R laminated structure at 90% or more by an area ratio. A method for manufacturing the hydrogen storing alloy includes a step of manufacturing a mother alloy which satisfies following general formula (1) by a melting and casting step, and a heat treatment step of heat-treating the mother alloy for 1 to 20 hours in a range of 600°C to a temperature just below a melting point, and a step of cooling at a cooling rate of 5°C/min or less after heat treatment. General formula (1) is expressed by RaMgaNibMcXd. |
