The device (1) has a voltage source (10) connected with a functional component (4) for supplying supply voltage to the functional component, where the functional component is in the form of a starter. The voltage source stabilizes the supply voltage via a resistor cascade (30). The resistor cascade includes two parallel-connected cascade branches. Each cascade branch comprises a series connection of a switch i.e. head light switch, with a resistor. A control unit controls the switch, and a charge pump supplies operating voltage to the control unit. The switch is formed by a transistor.
