Catheter with deactivatable side port

A catheter introducer has a cannula (24) around a needle and a housing with a through passage and a side port (12) rotatable between an open position for infusion of fluid into the passage and a closed position where it can be irreversibly locked by a ratchet (50,52). The port is pref. movable by a rotatable sheath (18) fitting at least partially around the housing, and there may be a valve between port and passage. There may be a seal between port and housing to prevent entry of contaminants.
