The method involves presetting a desired value for a fed power by a power limited mode of operation, where the power is smaller than a rated value for a wind energy plant. A torque is lowered on a threshold rotational speed of a generator through a torque control such that the preset desired value for the power is not exceeded. The threshold rotational speed, depending on the preset desired value for the moment, is set to a value smaller than the rated value for the rotational speed.
